Howdy there! My name is Shelby Peña, and I am a registered dietitian, licensed dietitian, and certified diabetes, care, and education specialist. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas and completed my bachelors of science degree in Nutrition from Texas State University in 2016. I went on to complete my masters of science degree in Human Sciences from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 2020. I am currently a doctoral candidate at Texas Tech University, where my research focus is on the fruit and vegetable consumption of food insecure individuals living in South Texas.
I began my career as a dietitian, working in the clinical field before transitioning to the field of community Nutrition. I've been working with patients with diabetes for five years now, and have never been so happy in my life. I am somebody who had pre-diabetes, but through lifestyle changes and healthy, eating, I do not have pre-diabetes anymore and I have lost over 60 pounds. I was able to lose the weight without spending money on diet and gym memberships. I believe that for someone to sustain a healthy body weight and a healthy body, they must not partake in drastic changes to their current lifestyle. I believe in a holistic approach to health, focusing on the health of every organ in the body.
as a mother, wife, and working woman, I am here to tell you that you can focus on yourself while still taking care of everything else. I am here to support you every step of the way, and I want to see you succeed.
